Covid 2 Hospital, Rome

The Covid-Sars-19 epidemic has shocked Italian healthcare system. To cope with the emergency and help the sicks, several hospitals have been built or renovated in the main Italian cities.

On March 16, Covid 2 Hospital, entirely dedicated to patients infected with Coronavirus, was inaugurated in Rome. An existing structure was transformed in record time into a specialized clinical center to deal with the ongoing health emergency.
Despite the creation of a dedicated exceptional place, the high number of infected patients has prompted the healthcare facility to move the less critical patients to hotels to free up hospital stays.

I’ve documented the activities within the structure, the meetings of the medical and administrative staff, the construction of new hospital wards, the transfer of the sick, the care of patients placed in intensive isolation. This photographic series describes the birth and evolution of a highly specialized hub in a situation of maximum urgency, as well as the procedures adopted for the containment of the pandemic of Coronavirus in Rome inside and outside the clinic.

03.24.2020. In the intensive care unit of Covid2, a patient has respiratory support. Coronavirus seriously damages the lung alveoli. In severe cases, intubated patients are placed in a prone position for at least 16 hours to stabilize ventilation.

03.30.2020. In the lobby of the Courtyard by Marriott Rome Central Park hotel, a desk is set up with safety devices for healthcare professionals. The continuous influx of patients forces the hospital to rent luxury hotels to move patients who no longer need respiratory support.
