Animalìe | Animaly (2013)
Animaly is a project about pet care. For about a year, I’ve visited animal clinics and hospitals. I took pictures in waiting rooms and operating theatres. I followed office visits and emergency procedures.
My work tells a story about animals, but it also describes an inversion, or rather an anomaly. The dogs and cats in my photographs are object of an inversion in their dependent relationship with their owners.
Cats and dogs are depicted while receiving the best medical treatments from highly qualified doctors. For once, it’s the humans who are serving the animals, something that makes the cats and dogs appear more “human” than the humans themselves.
The dimension of the medical care, therefore, is the privileged condition of this inversion.
Animaly is also a project where different iconic typologies and modes of production of photography interact to investigate the role and the value of technological images in the current system of the media.
